About

Hi! I’m Tim Black, the Founder and CEO of Vecarta.

After being fortunate enough to study under the late Professor Donald Shoup, I worked on implementing these ideas as part of LA’s ExpressPark real-time parking initiative.

My takeaway — high-cost, asset-heavy solutions requiring the purchase, install, and maintenance of real-time parking sensors may make sense for the downtowns of NY or LA but are likely overkill for everywhere else, especially when city transportation officials are being asked to do more with less.

I worked on the engineering team at Streetlight Data to deliver an asset-lite approach to measuring vehicle travel patterns, and the flexibility of our platform allowed our data to be used in ways that continually surprised me during my five years there.

With Vecarta, I plan to do the same for parking. The mission of Vecarta is to provide on-street and lot parking intelligence for local governments and business where expensive, asset-heavy solutions don’t make sense by instead relying on satellite imagery and AI.
